I have the privilege of joining 31 other fantastic emerging artists for an 8-week-long program, where we'll perform in four fully staged productions along with concerts, diction, and acting classes. I will also receive private voice lessons and private coaching sessions with the fantastic faculty. Masterclasses by visiting professional artists, artists’ managers, and professional company arts administrators are regularly scheduled throughout the summer. Classes and sessions in other theatrical aspects of the performance of opera and musical theater, including sets and costumes, make-up, and hairstyling, are also given.

This is always the first question I get when I tell people my career goals, and the answer is never simple. As a low-income, first-generation Hispanic student, college is a luxury that does not come cheap. The arts at a collegiate level are often not accessible to students like me, and those who manage to be accepted have to fight harder to reach the same level as their colleagues. Opera is no different, as these summer programs often require payment and leave you without a job for the extended period of time you are away. Regardless of all the barriers placed in front of me, I chose opera because creating meaningful music is more than just reading the notes and lyrics on the page.

My journey has not been easy, but I have always kept pushing along to represent my experiences and culture in these opera productions. I work hard to hone my craft and reach a level of excellence that not only includes my voice but also the way I represent myself and my community in all spaces. Your contribution to this recital through a donation, joining me in person or online, or even just sharing the poster will help me immensely through this next major step in my opera journey. I have always believed that success does not belong to just one individual but also to the community that molded that individual. My community has always been there for me through thick and thin, and I cannot wait to continue representing you all through each one of our successes.
